Honda now sells seven hybrid models in 50 countries and they all come equipped with Honda’s original lightweight and compact IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) hybrid system.

In the UK, Honda has sold more than 22,000 hybrids since the original Insight was launched in 2000 and the current hybrid line up now consists of the CR-Z, Jazz Hybrid and Insight.

Honda’s annual worldwide hybrid sales for 2011 was approximately 200,000 units (up 30 per cent compared to 2010), and Honda’s total hybrid sales during the last three years exceeded 500,000. In Japan, the ratio of hybrid vehicles exceeded 45 per cent of all new Honda vehicle registrations for the month of December 2011.

Low Cost Motoring

FOUR YEARS OF LOW COST MOTORING WITH HONDA

Honda is introducing four years free servicing and roadside assistance on a range of models to help drive down the cost of new car ownership. This offer is available on CR-Z, Insight and British-built Jazz (excluding Jazz Hybrid), Civic and CR-V orders until the end of September.
  • Four years complimentary servicing and roadside assistance on wide range of models
  • Lower monthly payments with four year finance options including a 0 per cent HP and 6.4 per cent PCP
  • New Jazz now available from just £117 per month
  •  Honda Civic 1.4 Type S available from £12,995
Complimenting the free servicing and roadside assistance is a range of four year finance options designed to bring down the cost of a new Honda into lower monthly payments. A four year 0 per cent HP means a customer can drive away a new Jazz for only £117 per month or a Civic for £162.*

“We have noticed a rising trend of people keeping their cars for longer and this new campaign reflects this change in ownership pattern,” commented Martin Moll, Head of Marketing, Honda (UK).

“This is another example of how we’re always listening to our customers and responding with products and offers that are relevant. To drive away a Jazz for only £117 a month without the worry of the cost of servicing and roadside assistance for four years really shows we have our customer’s needs and concerns at the front of our minds.”

On top of these offers, customers looking to purchase a Civic can snap up a 1.4 Type S for the reduced price of £12,995 – saving over £2,000.

Bullet-proof reliability
These offers, combined with Honda’s renowned reliability means affordable and hassle-free new Honda ownership for the first four years.

The results of the respected 2011 JD Power Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study are further proof of Honda’s bullet-proof reliability and excellent customer service. Honda retained the number two spot in the manufacturer league table with Jazz celebrating its eighth consecutive win in the Supermini class. For the second year running Accord topped the chart in the family car category, while both Civic and CR-V were ranked second in their own respective classes.

The Honda Eye

TAKE A RIDE ON THE HONDA EYE AND SEE GOODWOOD AS YOU'VE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE

Honda presents the first giant wheel at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Honda is introducing two firsts at Goodwood Festival of Speed; the Honda Eye, a 40-metre high, 24-pod giant ferris wheel and the official debut of the CR-Z MUGEN.

The Honda Eye will enable visitors to experience widespread views of the Goodwood Estate and the beautiful surrounding areas of West Sussex. The Eye will be open throughout the Festival, running in 10 minute rotations from 9am-6pm. Car enthusiasts can enjoy multiple rides on the attraction, free of charge.

A fast-track pass for the ride and access to further information on the event can be found at www.honda.co.uk/goodwood

Other online activity includes Honda’s Twitter competition, where the lucky winners will take a ride in one of the VIP-themed pods, with a Honda racing driver or motorcycle rider. Among the racers are BTCC stars Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden and champion motorcycle riders Sam Lowes and Cameron Donald.

Once again, Honda will be showcasing a range of cars in the Moving Motor Show; amongst them the special edition Civic Ti and BTCC replica race car. Honda will also introduce a new concept car, the CR-Z MUGEN RR, from their longstanding tuning partner MUGEN.

The Goodwood Hillclimb will play host to the first public showing of the CR-Z MUGEN, a higher performance version of the sporty hybrid. Visitors will be given the opportunity to see this one-off prototype, before any other members of the public. Honda will also present potential car buyers with the chance to drive on the world famous Goodwood Hillclimb.

On the main Honda stand guests can enter the ‘Win a lot of Honda’ draw, where they will be in with a chance to win one of every Honda product. This includes a car, motorcycle, mower, generator, ATV, inflatable boat and outboard engine.

For race enthusiasts in the crowds, Honda TT legends John McGuinness and teammate Keith Amor will be attending with the CBR1000RR, the bike that helped McGuinness achieve the fastest ever lap of the Isle of Man.

Visitors will also be able to see Gordon Shedden’s British Touring Car Championship race car, along with the new Crossrunner motorcycle and CBR600RR.

ATHLETES TEAM UP WITH HONDA

WORLD-CLASS BRITISH ATHLETES TEAM UP WITH HONDA (UK)

Cyclist Ed Clancy, gymnast Beth Tweddle, javelin thrower Goldie Sayers and swimmer Jazmin Carlin have joined with Honda (UK) to form the Power of Dreams Team to inspire others to follow their ambitions.

As part of the tie-up, Honda will follow the journey of each athlete, to showcase their talents and how they have come to achieve their dreams of representing Great Britain.

Simon Gardiner, Marketing Communications Manager for Honda (UK) commented: “We want to get across how dreams can drive what we do and who we become, by telling a ‘behind the scenes’ story of the athletes.

“The Power of Dreams is something we live everyday at Honda and it’s great that the team have come on board to help illustrate this message. They are all fantastic ambassadors for their country, their sport and for Honda so we’re looking forward to seeing them take home the gold.”

Ed Clancy, record breaking cyclist, says: “My dream has always been to represent Great Britain and become world number one cyclist. Through working with Honda (UK) and with each of the other athletes we want to motivate others to achieve their goals. It’s taken a great deal of hard work and perseverance to get to where I am today, but I think the challenges we face are what makes us stronger.”

Honda (UK) is supporting the athletes by providing each with a car, to help with the travel to and from their competitions and to carry their sporting equipment. Between them they have the British-built Civic Ti, CR-V and Jazz and also a CR-Z.

Honda Hybrid Charging On

FULL-BLOWN HONDA HYBRID CHARGING ON

CR-Z MUGEN to be supercharged and deliver around 200PS

MUGEN Euro’s tuned Honda CR-Z remains on course for its world debut at Goodwood in July.

MUGEN has revealed that the high-performance CR-Z hybrid will use a supercharger to deliver over 50 per cent more power and torque from the Honda’s petrol-electric drivetrain.

The tuned version of the hybrid coupe is expected to produce around 200PS, and 181lb.ft of torque, with significantly enhanced performance throughout the rev range. The car retains the Honda IMA electric motor and the original 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, which has been rebuilt to MUGEN specification with bespoke upgraded and strengthened internal components.

In order to give a fully integrated and smooth power delivery, MUGEN Euro has developed the MUGEN iCF system, which allows all the elements of the electro-mechanical system to work in harmony.

“The idea was to use the significant advantage of the early torque provided by the Honda IMA electric motor, then increase the torque available from the petrol engine gradually, to first maintain and then increase this,” says Colin Whittamore from MUGEN Euro. “A supercharger and complementary electronics allow us to very neatly map the IMA to the extra power and torque of the engine in a unique package, giving a smooth, integrated and powerful driving experience.”

As well as improvements under the bonnet, MUGEN has used its extensive motorsport and Honda tuning experience to further develop the chassis dynamics, with 5-step adjustable dampers fitted front and rear, an increase in track width and a large reduction in overall weight.

Bigger brake discs and 4-pot monobloc callipers help stop the more powerful car, while 17-inch forged alloy MUGEN GP wheels reduce unsprung mass.

Elsewhere, the CR-Z gets some cosmetic enhancements in the form of MUGEN body parts, including front and rear under spoilers, side skirts and a rear wing.

The Honda CR-Z MUGEN makes its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.

It is a joint project between Honda (UK) and MUGEN Euro – the Northampton-based subsidiary of Honda’s long standing tuning partner MUGEN. In 2009, MUGEN Euro produced the Civic Type R MUGEN, an extreme, 240PS version of Honda popular hot hatch.

At this stage, the CR-Z MUGEN is being developed purely as a one-off prototype, with no plans for a production version.

Honda CR-Z Safety Rating

Barretts Honda News
HONDA CR-Z IS ONE OF EUROPE’S SAFEST CARS
Top Euro NCAP score for sporty hybrid

Honda Safety Rating
Honda Cars Kent
Honda Cars South East

The Honda CR-Z has been rated one of Europe’s safest cars, achieving a maximum 5-stars in the latest independent crash testing results from Euro NCAP.

Euro NCAP’s rating scheme focuses on the vehicle’s overall safety performance which gives consumers an easy to understand single score. The system considers occupant protection in frontal, side, pole and rear impacts, child protection, pedestrian protection and the availability of driver aids.

The rating scheme uses a weighted score, combining many aspects of a car’s safety performance: adult (50%), child (20%) and pedestrian (20%) protection assessment results with the availability of safety assistance devices (10%). To qualify for inclusion, safety assistance devices (VSA for Honda) must be fitted as standard across 90% of the EU 27 2010 model range.

The CR-Z is the latest in a series of Honda cars to receive top marks. Since the introduction of the new rating scheme, Euro NCAP has tested four other Honda models; Civic, Accord, Jazz and most recently, Insight. All five models achieved 5 stars, with the Honda Insight also being named “safest hybrid vehicle” as well as the 2nd safest vehicle tested during 2009.

Euro NCAP's new assessment reflects Honda’s commitment to overall vehicle safety, complimenting Honda’s long standing in-house safety testing which seeks to improve real world safety. Honda’s car-to-car crash test facility at the Tochigi R&D centre analyses impacts between models of different sizes and weights and develops solutions to mitigate injuries for both for passengers and pedestrians. The omni-directional vehicle-to-vehicle crash test facility opened in 2001 and is the world's first indoor all-weather facility of its type.

Safety in the Honda CR-Z

Vehicle Stability Assist
Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) is designed to assist the driver in maintaining control during cornering, acceleration and sudden manoeuvres by applying braking assistance to any of the wheels as necessary and modulating the engine torque output as required.

Braking
14-inch ventilated front and solid rear disc brakes ensure road stability, which is further enhanced by the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE)
Developed in the car-to-car crash testing facility at Tochigi, the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure is now a well-established strength of Honda’s safety credentials.

The ACE™ body structure is a Honda exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions. The ACE design utilises a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle. This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment and can help to more evenly disperse the forces transferred to other vehicles in a crash.

Pedestrian Protection
The CR-Z also incorporates many features designed with pedestrian-protection in mind. Research has shown that these features can dramatically improve a pedestrian's chance of survival if struck by a moving vehicle. Features include windscreen wiper pivots designed to break away on impact, energy absorbing front wing mounts and bonnet hinges, as well as an unobstructed area beneath the bonnet allowing greater space for deformation.

Airbags and Seatbelts
On all models in the range, the driver and passenger Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) front and side airbags are complemented by full length curtain airbags to protect all occupants. There are three-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts in all seating positions, the front seatbelts also have two stage Energy Absorption (EA) load limiting pre-tensioners. Additionally in the rear ISOFIX points ensure secure and correct installation mounting of child seats.

Active headrests
The CR-Z is equipped with front seat active headrests which reduce the likelihood of neck injury in rear impacts. As the occupant is pushed against the seat back, a rigid plate in the seat presses a link to the headrest pushing it up and forward to support the head.

Honda CR-Z and Type-R Mugen at Goodwood Festival of Speed

The route includes the world famous Goodwood Hillclimb, allowing aspiring racers to follow in the tracks of racing legends like Sir Stirling Moss, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

Honda will also be exhibiting at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, from 2 to 4 July 2010, showcasing a selection of its racing cars and motorcycles.

Special guests will join the Honda Racing Team to pilot its BTCC-prepared Civic up the hill, World Superbike riders Jonathan Rea and Eugene Laverty will be riding on Saturday and Sunday and Honda racing drivers and riders will be taking part in a special 'Question of Motorsport' live quiz on each day of the festival.

Honda Racing Team

Barretts Honda News
Honda Racing Team: BTCC Race Preview Report
Rounds 13-15, Croft, North Yorkshire

The Honda Racing Team heads to Croft in North Yorkshire this weekend for the fifth meeting in this season’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with star driver Matt Neal aiming to increase his advantage on top of the standings.

Civic racer Neal has taken three wins so far this season and heads the chase for the coveted title by eight points. His Honda Racing Team partner Gordon Shedden is in the top six with four podium finishes.

Neal will have to carry 45 kilos of success ballast going into the three races on Sunday because he is leading the series. Despite that, the 43-year-old thinks he can conquer the 2.18-mile track. Neal said: “I really like the circuit because it has a bit of everything; there are fast corners that really challenge the drivers and there are slow bits too where your car needs good traction. Our Civic is strong in all those areas, so that makes me optimistic. Carrying 45 kilos in the first of the three races means qualifying is going to be tough for me but if I get into the top six, then I can build my weekend from there.”
The North Yorkshire track traditionally hosts a huge crowd on race weekend because it is the BTCC’s only appearance of the season in the North East. Neal loves the atmosphere it creates. “There are two areas where the crowd can get really close at Croft, and that creates a special feeling,” he adds. “It is a weekend I always look forward to.”

Scotsman Gordon Shedden has shown blistering pace so far this year in his Civic – he set a lap record last time out at Oulton Park – and is knocking on the door of a crucial first win of the season. He thinks Croft would be the ideal place to kick start his campaign for the second half of the year.

“I have had some bad luck which has kept me off the top step,” said ‘Flash’. “But the thing that keeps me going is that I know the car is fast and that I am fast. I have been on the front row of the starting grid more times than not this year and I have set a number of fastest laps. That shows it is all there.”
“Croft is a great circuit and it will play to our strengths – but the field is so competitive this season it will be hard to get to the front,” he added. “I need three solid finishes but I have every chance here. It is a track I like because you have to be aggressive and the racing is always close. It creates a great atmosphere too and for me, being from Scotland, it is almost like a local circuit.”

British Touring Car Championship standings (after 9/30 rounds):
1. Matt Neal, Honda Racing Team, Honda Civic (67)
2. Jason Plato, Racing Silverline, Chevrolet Lacetti (67)
3. Steven Kane, Airwaves BMW, BMW 320si (59)
4. Paul O'Neill, Sunshine.co.uk, Honda Integra (56)
5. Mat Jackson, Airwaves BMW, BMW 320si (53)
6. Gordon Shedden, Honda Racing Team, Honda Civic (50)

Honda CR-Z Arrives this Summer

Honda CR-Z Arrives this Summer

'DREAM FACTORY' SUPPORTS LAUNCH OF CR-Z HYBRID
Honda (UK) has launched 'Dream Factory' - a celebration of the UK's most exciting cultural innovators. Each of the pioneering individuals - musicians, artists, filmmakers and social entrepreneurs - share common traits with Honda's new CR-Z, the world's first sporty hybrid.

Honda is celebrating  the inspiring stories and ground-breaking achievements of 20 British ‘Cultural Engineers’ through a website, a limited edition book, an eclectic exhibition in London, and a series of nationwide workshops.
The Dream Factory activity follows three themes that reflect the values of the CR-Z hybrid coupe and the Cultural Engineers: delivering fun, great design, with a modern conscience.
These three traits are apparent in the work of the Cultural Engineers, from the guerrilla gardening movement founded by Richard Reynolds, to the Rwandan music record label of Dicken Marshall, or the idea of ColaLife to transport medicine to developing countries using the world’s biggest soft drink distribution network.
Learn more about the Cultural Engineers and their work at: http://www.dreamfactoryuk.com/
“Just a few years ago, a stylish, sporty hybrid car didn’t seem possible,” says Steve Kirk, Communications Manager at Honda (UK), “but the CR-Z really is proof of the power of dreams. Honda engineers believe in challenging convention and the Dream Factory’s Cultural Engineers have the same kind of passion, energy and desire to innovate and confront the status quo.”
As a tribute to the Cultural Engineers and their inspirational work, a collaborative exhibition is being held from 21-30 May at The Dray Walk Gallery, Brick Lane, London. Visitors will be able to experience the work of the artists, musicians and designers first-hand, view exclusive films in the on-site cinema and witness previously unseen creative collaborations.
Following the launch of the exhibition and the limited edition book in London this week, a selection of the Cultural Engineers will hold creative workshops at locations across the UK, sharing their dreams, stories and giving advice. These start in London on 24 June, and extend to Glasgow, Bristol and Brighton over the following two weeks.

Visit http://www.dreamfactoryuk.com/ for more information on the exhibition and the workshops.
