Honda Tops What Car? Reliability Chart

Honda Tops What Car? Reliability Chart for Eight Years Running

Honda has once again been named the most reliable car manufacturer in the annual What Car? and Warranty Direct Reliability Survey. This result means Honda has taken the much sought after title for an unprecedented eight years in a row, further reinforcing Honda's reputation for building rock-solid, dependable cars.

This achievement is attributed to Honda’s robust manufacturing practices which have resulted in low failure rates and lower than average repair costs for customers.

The What Car? and Warranty Direct Reliability Survey is based on real claims data and is a compilation of reviews and opinions of over 50,000 car owners. It takes into account the average yearly repair costs, common model issues and the owners overall reliability score for their car.

Honda models feature prominently throughout the survey with the British built Jazz and Civic continuing to do well in their respective classes, as does the Accord, while the HR-V was named the most reliable compact SUV.

Chas Hallett, editor in chief, What Car? magazine added “Eight years at the top of the annual What Car? / Warranty Direct Reliability study is a remarkable achievement for Honda. This study is based on hard facts and figures and is confirmation that Honda makes great cars that are unlikely to let down their owners.”

Phil Crossman, Managing Director, Honda (UK) commented; “Reliability is at the heart of all our research, development and manufacturing processes and this ensures we build reliable and high quality cars. We strive to deliver an enjoyable and hassle free Honda ownership to all our customers, from the moment they purchase, right through the lifetime of the car.

“Success in reliability studies further proves the dedication, skill and passion of our engineers, associates and dealer network. We are incredibly proud to be the most reliable manufacturer in the industry – yet again!”

What Car? isn’t the only title to recognise Honda’s bullet proof reliability. It follows hot on the heels of the Which? Car Reliability and Best Buy survey which saw the Jazz and Insight taking the top spots in their respective categories.

Honda Jazz best used small family car

Article by Quentin Willson:

Which? magazine has given the Jazz the ultimate accolade as the best supermini money can buy

If you watched me last Tuesday on ITV’s This Morning with Eamonn and Ruth, you will have seen me extolling the virtues of the Honda Jazz as my best used small family car.

Well, it’s good to know that my opinion has been confirmed by the prestigious Which? magazine, which has given the Jazz the ultimate accolade as the best supermini money can buy.

Honda’s enormously capable hatch comes top of every reliability survey and then some.

Owners praise its lack of faults and ability to cover huge mileages without major component failure. And dealers say the same thing.

Once you sell a Jazz, the only time you see the customer again is when they come back to buy another.

So if you’re faced – like thousands are – with the dilemma of which family motor to go for, the Jazz will cost you less and last longer than virtually every other used motor out there.

It may not be the most exciting ride, and the driving dynamics aren’t class-leading, but its strongest suit is its versatility and MPV-like interior proportions.

Fold the seats back and you have nearly 400 litres of cargo area – more than enough for a family of four.

Plus, there’s a clever double-layered floor for stowing small items.

Engines range from 1.2 to 1.4, plus a hybrid and auto option.

Go for the top-spec EX and you get heated leather seats, air con and factory satnav.

Visibility is great, with a tall, upright driving position, and the smooth gearshift and light steering make it a breeze to drive.

Fuel economy is a very reasonable 50-odd mpg (63 from the hybrid), plus low insurance and high resale mean it’s also one of the cheapest used hatches to own and run.

Decent used examples start at £1,500 for an 03-plater with 50k miles, a 58-reg, face-lift car will cost you around £5k, while new ones start at £11,695 or £129 a month.

The Jazz is quite simply the perfect car for the austerity era.

Honda CR-V Safety Award

New Honda CR-V Receives 5-Star Euro NCAP Overall Safety Rating

The new British built Honda CR-V has been rated one of Europe‘s safest cars, according to new independent crash testing results from Euro NCAP, receiving the maximum 5-star rating.

The rating scheme focuses on the vehicle’s overall safety performance which gives consumers an easy to understand single score. The system considers occupant protection, child protection, pedestrian protection and the availability of driver aids. Since the introduction of Euro NCAP‘s current rating scheme (February 2009) all Honda models tested have achieved 5 stars - Accord, Insight, Jazz, CR-Z, Civic and most recently the new CR-V.

The new CR-V’s top safety rating reflects Honda’s commitment to overall vehicle safety. Honda’s commitment to safety is embodied by the term ‘Safety for Everyone; safety for drivers, but also safety for passengers, pedestrians and occupants of all vehicles. Honda’s car-to-car crash test facility at the Tochigi R&D plant analyses impacts between models of different sizes and weights and develops solutions to mitigate injuries for both passengers and pedestrians.

The new CR-V, produced at Honda’s state of the art manufacturing facility in Swindon, is the next model in the Honda line-up to receive the new Earth Dreams Technology 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine. The CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC is available in two-wheel drive with manual transmission and will feature 300Nm of torque and 120 PS with CO2 emissions of only 119g/km to provide an exceptional balance of performance and economy. This new derivative will go on sale in autumn 2013.

Safety Highlights in the Honda CR-V

Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control

VSA is designed to assist the driver in maintaining control during cornering, acceleration and sudden manoeuvres by applying braking to the right- or left-hand wheels as necessary and modulating the engine torque output as required.

Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering (MA-EPS)

The system detects instability in slippery conditions both during cornering and under braking and automatically initiates steering inputs aimed at prompting the driver to steer in the correct direction. In addition to improving efficiency and optimising driver feedback, the system helps to stabilise braking and mitigate understeer and oversteer.

Emergency Stop System (ESS)
ESS automatically activates the brake and hazard warning lights (indicators) when it detects an emergency stop situation. The lights blink rapidly to warn following vehicles that the car is stopping abruptly, reducing the risk of a collision.

Advanced Driving Assist Systems (ADAS)

This is a suite of three ground-breaking technologies that raise safety to a new level:

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)LKAS uses a camera to detect the car deviating from a traffic lane and provides steering torque when necessary, thereby enhancing safety.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)ACC allows you to choose both your speed and distance from the vehicle ahead. If this falls below the set level, the system instantly decelerates the vehicle. Where quicker deceleration is required ACC will alert the driver to apply the brakes.

Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)CMBS monitors the following distance and closing rate between your vehicle and the car directly in front of it, warning the driver when a collision is likely and helping reduce impact speed when a collision becomes unavoidable.

All ADAS systems are designed to complement the driver, not to replace their input.

Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure

(ACE) Body Structure provides significantly enhanced occupant protection in a variety of real-world crash conditions. A front-mounted polygonal main frame is designed to prevent cabin deformation by distributing forces through multiple major load bearing pathways - and away from the passenger compartment. Additionally, ACE Body Structure helps to minimise the potential for under- or over-ride situations, this is particularly important where a frontal collision occurs between vehicles of differing heights, weights or frame construction.• Pedestrian ProtectionThe construction of the front of the new CR-V is designed to help absorb energy in the event of a collision with a pedestrian.

Specific pedestrian injury mitigation features include:
  • An unobstructed area beneath the bonnet that allows greater space for deformation.
  • Windscreen wiper pivots designed to break away on impact
  • Energy absorbing front wing mounts and bonnet hinges
Whiplash Mitigation System

The front seats of the new CR-V incorporate a whiplash mitigation system, which is designed to help mitigate the severity of neck injuries in the event of a rear impact.

The HONDA CR-V 2.0 i-VTEC S 2WD is now available from only  £259 a month. For more information visit: Honda Latest Offers

Honda Civic scoops Gold for Green

New ‘no-compromise’ Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC scoops Gold for Green in Tow Car Awards

Honda’s new Civic 1.6 i-DTEC ES has scooped the Green Award at the 2013 Tow Car Awards; as well as beating off stiff competition to be crowned the most fuel efficient model in this year’s judging.
The Green Award is based on a combination of fuel efficiency, low emissions and towing ability. The Civic was independently tested towing a Swift caravan - weighted to 85 per cent of its kerbweight - the maximum weight recommended for secure and stable towing. The no-compromise frugal Civic capably carried out its duties pulling its caravan from 30-60mph in a very respectable 18.7 seconds.

The Tow Car Awards is a joint venture between Practical Caravan, What Car? and The Camping and Caravanning Club, with caravans and technical support supplied by the Swift Group. Each car goes through a series of towing tests at the MIRA proving ground, including 30-60mph acceleration, 30-0mph braking, a hill start and an emergency lane-change test.

The judges particularly singled out the Civic for it’s true MPG performance. David Motton, tow car editor, Practical Caravan, commented: “Some cars get nowhere near their official fuel economy figures in normal driving, but in independent testing by the What Car? True MPG team the Civic 1.6 i-DTEC achieved 66.4mpg. That makes it the most fuel-efficient car in this year’s tests.”

Phil Crossman, Managing Director at Honda (UK) added: “This award once again confirms the new Civic’s status as a fantastic package of power, performance and efficiency. It might be one of the smallest cars which took part in the judging but it’s proved to be more than capable at towing while maintaining excellent fuel economy.”

David Motton, tow car editor, Practical Caravan concludes: “The Civic is the car to choose if you want excellent fuel economy and stable towing. It’s a worthy winner of this year’s Green Award.”

Judges of the Tow Car Awards include the editor of Practical Caravan magazine, the tow car editor of Practical Caravan, the deputy road test editor of What Car?, and the technical department at The Camping and Caravanning Club.

Cars aren’t just rated for their towing ability. What Car?’s expert road test team score each car for regular driving, safety, running costs and value for money. The Camping and Caravanning Club’s technical team check practical details such as boot space, how easily extension mirrors can be fitted, and whether the spare wheel provision is suitable for towing. Forty six cars were tested as part of this year’s awards, with the aim of finding cars which are great to tow with, good value and easy to live with in everyday driving.

The new Civic 1.6 i-DTEC offers a class-leading combination of fuel economy and performance – emitting only 94 g/km of CO2 with a powerful 120PS. The debut of the new small diesel engine on the British-built Civic marks an exciting new chapter in the history of Honda diesels. The engine is the first to be launched in Europe under Honda’s flagship Earth Dreams Technology environmental programme; offering customers an outstanding balance of high fuel economy, low emissions and exciting performance.
