Honda CR-Z and Type-R Mugen at Goodwood Festival of Speed
Honda is taking part in the first ever Moving Motor Show at Goodwood on 1 July, which gives car enthusiasts the chance to test drive two of its most exciting cars around a 3.5-mile test track.
The route includes the world famous Goodwood Hillclimb, allowing aspiring racers to follow in the tracks of racing legends like Sir Stirling Moss, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
Honda will also be exhibiting at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, from 2 to 4 July 2010, showcasing a selection of its racing cars and motorcycles.
Special guests will join the Honda Racing Team to pilot its BTCC-prepared Civic up the hill, World Superbike riders Jonathan Rea and Eugene Laverty will be riding on Saturday and Sunday and Honda racing drivers and riders will be taking part in a special 'Question of Motorsport' live quiz on each day of the festival.
Two Honda cars have been made available for members of the public to drive at the Moving Motor Show on 1 July: the CR-Z, Honda’s new sporty hybrid, brings driving thrills with low emissions, while the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN – one of only 20 being made – will use its 240PS high-revving engine to excite drivers over the renowned Hillclimb route.
On the Honda stand at Goodwood, visitors will be able to view and experience products from across the Honda range, including cars, motorcycles, lawnmowers, generators and even solar panels.
Each day, a round of the infamous ‘Question of Motorsport’ will be held, featuring Honda stars from past and present. This fun quiz will be hosted by Tim Harvey, former BTCC champ and Porsche Carrera Cup racer.

Barretts Honda News Honda Racing Team: BTCC Race Preview Report Rounds 13-15, Croft, North Yorkshire
The Honda Racing Team heads to Croft in North Yorkshire this weekend for the fifth meeting in this season’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with star driver Matt Neal aiming to increase his advantage on top of the standings.
Civic racer Neal has taken three wins so far this season and heads the chase for the coveted title by eight points. His Honda Racing Team partner Gordon Shedden is in the top six with four podium finishes.
Neal will have to carry 45 kilos of success ballast going into the three races on Sunday because he is leading the series. Despite that, the 43-year-old thinks he can conquer the 2.18-mile track. Neal said: “I really like the circuit because it has a bit of everything; there are fast corners that really challenge the drivers and there are slow bits too where your car needs good traction. Our Civic is strong in all those areas, so that makes me optimistic. Carrying 45 kilos in the first of the three races means qualifying is going to be tough for me but if I get into the top six, then I can build my weekend from there.” The North Yorkshire track traditionally hosts a huge crowd on race weekend because it is the BTCC’s only appearance of the season in the North East. Neal loves the atmosphere it creates. “There are two areas where the crowd can get really close at Croft, and that creates a special feeling,” he adds. “It is a weekend I always look forward to.”
Scotsman Gordon Shedden has shown blistering pace so far this year in his Civic – he set a lap record last time out at Oulton Park – and is knocking on the door of a crucial first win of the season. He thinks Croft would be the ideal place to kick start his campaign for the second half of the year.
“I have had some bad luck which has kept me off the top step,” said ‘Flash’. “But the thing that keeps me going is that I know the car is fast and that I am fast. I have been on the front row of the starting grid more times than not this year and I have set a number of fastest laps. That shows it is all there.” “Croft is a great circuit and it will play to our strengths – but the field is so competitive this season it will be hard to get to the front,” he added. “I need three solid finishes but I have every chance here. It is a track I like because you have to be aggressive and the racing is always close. It creates a great atmosphere too and for me, being from Scotland, it is almost like a local circuit.”

Auto stylist and TV personality RJ de Vera talks video games, tuning and CR-Z at E3 Expo
The all-new 2011 Honda CR-Z sport hybrid coupe made its Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 Expo) debut today, June 15, 2010. Evocative of many video games, the two-passenger CR-Z introduces a number of interactive features including a new three-mode drive system that allows the driver to select between Sport, Econ (Economy) and Normal driving models. The CR-Z will go on-sale later this summer.
The sport hybrid coupe will appear in several video games including:
Car Town by CIE Studios (Online, PC and Xbox Live)
Nitto Legends 1320 by CIE Studios (Online and PC)

MODE TRIP: HONDA'S NEW TV ADVERT FOR CR-Z HYBRID Honda's TV advert to promote its new sporty hybrid coupe
The 60-second spot for the CR-Z showcases the car’s unique three driving modes of Econ, Sport and Normal – and reflects the changing moods of the driver in each of the settings.
Called ‘RGB’, the ad is inspired by the look and feel of the CR-Z and is shot from the viewpoint of someone travelling through a city in the car. The focus of the film is the influence that the CR-Z’s three driving modes can have on a particular journey. The colour of the car’s dashboard display changes with each mode, and these shifts from red to green to blue are reflected in each part of the film, together with the changing environments the car is travelling through.
The advert highlights how a driver’s engagement with a city changes according to the mode they are driving in, making the experience more vivid and colourful.
The ad is the latest Honda spot made for the European market by W+K London, and was created by Sam Heath and Chris Groom and directed by Frank Budgen.
Sam Heath, Creative Director at Wieden + Kennedy, said, “The thing about this hybrid is that it’s fantastic to drive. You can choose to engage with the road and the world around you in three distinct ways. That’s essentially what the film’s all about.”
The spot is supported by a print campaign and digital activity, including an innovative Facebook campaign that takes information from the user’s profile pages to create a personalised piece of artwork.

HIGH SCORES FOR HONDA IN JD POWER SURVEY

Honda (UK) has secured second place overall in the JD Power Survey once again, scoring highly across all four categories - vehicle quality and reliability, vehicle appeal, service satisfaction and ownership costs.
• Jazz finishes first in class for seventh time running
• Accord also first in Family Cars category
• Three Honda models in overall top ten
• Big increase in service satisfaction scores
The latest results mean Honda has appeared within the top three manufacturers for five years running.
Honda’s popular Jazz finished first in its class yet again, making it an amazing seven years in a row and an unbroken record since the supermini was first included in the 2004 results.
The Accord finished fifth in the overall model ranking table, making it Honda’s highest achieving model. Jazz finished seventh overall, with CR-V in ninth place.
The biggest improvement for Honda (UK) came in the area of service satisfaction, which increased from a score of 824 to 840 points, moving from fifth to second in that section. This helped the manufacturer improve on last year’s overall rating of 81.7% to 82.5%, in second place behind luxury brand, Lexus.
Matt Gibson, Head of Customer and After Sales at Honda (UK), said: “We’re particularly pleased to see the increase in our service scores, as that’s been an area of focus for us over the past year. Our dealers are putting in a lot of hard work to ensure satisfaction, so it’s good to see our customers reporting improvements. It’s also an amazing result for the Jazz, which continues to exceed expectation and seems destined to hold on to that top spot in its class forever!”

Barretts Honda BTCC News Gold and Silver for Neal and Shedden Honda Racing Team: BTCC Race Review, Rounds 10-12, Oulton Park, Cheshire
In the company of World Champion cyclist Ed Clancy and World Champion gymnast Beth Tweddle, Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden brought home Gold and Silver medals at Oulton Park in Cheshire on Sunday.
Honda Racing Team star Matt Neal extended his lead in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship by winning the 12th round of the series. The Honda Civic driver’s win in the final reversed-grid race of the weekend added to a second place and an eighth place earlier in the day to move him eight points clear at the head of the points standings as the championship nears its halfway point. His results and those of Honda team-mate Gordon Shedden also helped consolidate the Honda Racing Team’s position at the head of the Manufacturers’ and Constructors’ standings.
Neal’s race three win capped a stunning fight through the pack from the fourth row of the starting grid and gave him his 43rd career victory in the BTCC. Neal, 43, said: “I am over the moon with the way things have gone this weekend. We came to the circuit with a full load of 45kgs of success ballast because we were leading the championship and that made qualifying really tough. Despite that, we worked hard on the set-up of the car and when we were running without ballast in race two, the car was stunning. It was really strong in the fast corners and I could really push with it.”
Scotsman Gordon Shedden’s weekend started off strongly with a front row qualifying position and second place finish in the opening race of the weekend in his Honda Racing Team Civic. However, a driveshaft failure halted his charge early on in race two when he was running competitively and he then slipped out of the top ten in the final event when his brakes wore through.
“It’s been encouraging and heartbreaking at the same time,” said Flash. “We have shown that we have got superb pace from the car because I qualified at the front and set the fastest lap – including the lap record – in two of the three races. We have let some big chances go and we aren’t scoring the kind of points we deserve at the moment. The luck has got to change at some point.”
Honda Racing Team boss Steve Neal said that the speed of both of the cars over the weekend had shown that the championship was a realistic target for Neal and Shedden. “This is the most competitive tin-top championship in the world at the moment and we are sitting at the top of it,” said Steve Neal. “That’s a testament to a great car and the great work that the team is doing but we can’t sit still. Oulton Park has shown that it is still very close and we need to keep pushing to win.”

Honda (UK) has launched an innovative Facebook application that takes information from the user’s profile pages to create a personalised piece of artwork. The campaign supports the launch of the new CR-Z sporty hybrid, which goes on sale this weekend.
The ‘Mode Art’ application allows users to create unique designs that incorporate images, names, dates and other details from their own Facebook pages. Each piece of art follows a theme of Sport, Econ or Normal – reflecting the unique driving modes of Honda’s CR-Z.
Users can change settings to alter the style of the piece of art, or change the Facebook inputs to influence the design. Once created, the artwork can be downloaded, shared online, uploaded to Honda’s Facebook fan page or transferred to a mobile phone to use as wallpaper.

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship points leader Matt Neal is looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of his Honda Racing Team Civic to continue the hunt for this year’s title at Oulton Park in Cheshire this weekend. The 43-year-old moved to the head of the standings after the last rounds at Brands Hatch in Kent five weeks ago and is expecting an even stronger performance from his Civic in the three races in Cheshire. "We haven’t rested in the five-week break – far from it," explains the two-time title winner Neal. "We went testing at Rockingham and it enabled us to try some different things on the car such as tweaks to the suspension. Some of the new parts worked very well and are real breakthroughs. The modifications will be on both mine and Gordon's cars this weekend." Because he is on top of the standings, Neal goes to the fourth meeting of the season having to carry 45 kilos of success ballast. He thinks that could be a real handicap around the 2.26-mile track. "I love the circuit and it always provides great racing because there are plenty of passing places," says Neal. "Carrying the ballast is going to be difficult because there are lots of uphill sections at Oulton Park where 45kgs is really going to hurt us. I will have my eyes on the BMWs to perform well there and you can never discount Jason Plato but our developments mean we should be able to be right in the mix."

Gordon Shedden goes to Oulton Park sixth in the points and has a 100 per cent record to defend in Cheshire. "I have won at Oulton in every season I have raced a touring car there and it has always been in a Honda! Talk about putting the pressure on..." he says. "I love the place because it is a real classic circuit and it gives the driver an adrenaline rush to nail a quick lap," adds the 31-year-old Scot. "Unlike Matt, I don’t have any extra weight on the car so I will be gunning for pole position to start the weekend off right. I want three big scores to push me to the front of the championship and given the developments we have made on the car, I am confident we will be right at the front." Honda is celebrating the inspiring stories and ground-breaking achievements of 20 British ‘Cultural Engineers’ through a website, a limited edition book, an eclectic exhibition in London, and a series of nationwide workshops. The Dream Factory activity follows three themes that reflect the values of the CR-Z hybrid coupe and the Cultural Engineers: delivering fun, great design, with a modern conscience. These three traits are apparent in the work of the Cultural Engineers, from the guerrilla gardening movement founded by Richard Reynolds, to the Rwandan music record label of Dicken Marshall, or the idea of ColaLife to transport medicine to developing countries using the world’s biggest soft drink distribution network.
