Honda is a Top Three Performer in honestjohn.co.uk Nationwide MoT Pass Rates

Honda is rated as a top 3 performer in an analysis of MoT pass rates undertaken by consumer champion, honestjohn.co.uk, reinforcing Honda’s solid reputation for reliability and bullet-proof build quality.

The analysis of 24.5 million MoT records obtained by honestjohn.co.uk, revealed that an average of 86 per cent of Honda cars registered in 2008 passed their first MoT, against a national average of 80 per cent.

Notable amongst the Honda successes was the British built CRV, scoring an impressive 89 per cent and demonstrating once again that the workforce in Swindon can match the build quality of any Japanese manufacturing plant.

Honda celebrates 500 new employees starting work as Swindon Plant introduces second shift

There were celebrations today at Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd (HUM) in Swindon as they introduced a second shift within their Car Plant 2 facility. As announced in December 2011, 500 new Associates were being recruited and today, they began their new roles within the Plant. This brings the total number of employees at HUM to 3,500, with the production volume forecast to double to 180,000 units in 2012.

Speaking in December, Honda Motor Europe President Manabu Nishimae said Honda remained totally committed to building cars and engines in Europe with Swindon at the heart of Honda's European manufacturing activities. This move to a two shift pattern on Line 2 represents a further step in HUM’s increased production activity, and coincides with growing demand for Honda’s new Civic family hatchback.

HUM Director, Andy Piatek commented, “I am delighted to welcome our new Associates. At HUM we are proud of the skills of our workforce and the quality and reliability of the products we build.”

New Honda Associate, Dan Smith, spoke about his excitement at starting work at Honda, “I am really looking forward to building the new Civic here at HUM. Over the past few months we have been through all kinds of training and now it’s finally time to get started!”

In addition to the new Civic and the successful Jazz, 2012 will also see the mass production launch of the new European CR-V and the introduction of a new small diesel engine, both of which will be produced at HUM.

Honda at the Geneva Motorshow 2012

The first engine from Honda’s ground breaking new Earth Dreams Technology range will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2012. The 1.6litre i-DTEC is the first in a new generation of engines being introduced to Honda models over the next three years. Lining up next to the new 1.6litre i-DTEC is the stunning Honda NSX Concept and European CR-V Prototype.
Honda will also have the European premiere of the EV-STER, the next-generation electric small sports concept model in the form of an electric rear-wheel-drive two-seater convertible sports car.

Two new Jazz derivatives will be displayed for the first time. The Jazz Si features an upgraded sporty suspension package and styling changes to the interior and the exterior. The second variant, the Jazz 1.2 with Idle Stop, delivers a reduction in CO₂emissions of 3g/km compared to the standard 1.2 model.

Honda is also displaying the rest of its model line-up comprising of the new Civic, the hybrids - Jazz, CR-Z and Insight - as well as the Accord range in Saloon and Tourer guise. In addition, the FCX Clarity, the world’s first production fuel-cell vehicle, makes another appearance to the public.

Earth Dreams Technology – Honda‘s new generation of drive trains

New 1.6litre i-DTEC engine for Europe At the Tokyo Motor Show in December 2011, Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that Honda is developing a new generation of drive trains named ‘Earth Dreams Technology’. This new series of engines and transmissions will deliver excellent performance and environmental values and will be gradually introduced throughout the Honda range.

Number one in fuel economy

With the exceptional environmental values of Earth Dreams Technology, Honda strives to achieve industry leading fuel efficiency within 3 years.

The first engine from this series will be a newly developed 1.6litre i-DTEC engine. Designed for the European market, this new smaller diesel engine will be first introduced to Honda’s new Civic in late 2012. It is lighter than any other diesel engine of its size and with CO₂ emissions of 95g/km and a maximum power output of 120 PS (at 4000rpm), the engine delivers a class-leading balance of fuel economy and performance. Honda CR-V Prototype

At Geneva, Honda has on display the European CR-V Prototype, which provides the first official glimpse of the styling direction for the all-new, fourth-generation CR-V, set to go on sale in autumn 2012.

The CR-V Prototype embraces a distinctive and bold styling direction. Compared to the previous generation, the model takes on a more aggressive stance with deeper sculpting of the body lines and a bolder front fascia. The lower front bumper wraps smartly upward to convey SUV capability, while the overall lower front bumper design now integrates more smoothly into the fascia for improved aerodynamics.

The CR-V's vertical taillights remain and now feature a more three-dimensional style that wraps further into the design of the vehicle. Equipped with more efficient engines compared to the current model, the new CR-V is expected to deliver improved fuel economy.

The CR-V is one of the top-selling SUVs and is sold in more than 160 countries throughout Europe, Asia, North America, South America and Africa. This 4th Generation CR-V is already on sale in North America and Japan and the European version will make its official debut at the Paris Salon in the autumn of 2012.

Honda NSX Concept

Honda presents the new Honda NSX Concept for the first time in Europe, highlighting the design and technology direction for the next-generation supercar.

Making use of lightweight materials and a mid-mounted V-6 engine, the NSX Concept employs several new technologies, including an innovative new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) system.

Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd, who was part of the development team of Honda’s first NSX supercar, recently explained the values of the new NSX; “Like the first NSX, we will again express high performance through engineering efficiency. In this new era, even as we focus on the fun to drive spirit of the NSX, I think a supercar must respond positively to environmental responsibilities.”

While most supercars opt for brute force delivered from a large engine, the NSX Concept represents the true racing philosophy of an extremely favourable power-to-weight ratio.

Utilising a unique 2 Electric Motor Drive Unit with a bilateral torque adjustable control system, the new hybrid all-wheel-drive system can instantly generate negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering, which Honda anticipates will deliver handling performance unmatched by previous AWD systems. In addition to the handling benefits of the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® system, a powerful next-generation VTEC V-6 engine with direct-injection, works together with a dual clutch transmission and a third electric traction motor integrated within the transmission housing, to create supercar acceleration while offering outstanding efficiency.

Making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show is the new Honda Jazz Si, which will reach showrooms in summer 2012. This new version combines the space, versatility and frugal running costs of the existing Jazz 1.4 i-VTEC but with increased dynamic appeal. The retuned suspension is complimented by styling revisions inside and out.

The Jazz Si was developed by Honda Research and Development Europe and will be manufactured in the UK.

Emphasising the sharp appearance of the Jazz Si is a new body kit. This consists of new front and rear bumpers, with deep valances and prominent side skirts. Stylish 16-inch alloy wheels are fitted with low-profile tyres, while front fog lights, dark-tinted privacy glass and a straight exhaust tailpipe complete the transformation.

Inside, the Jazz Si has black and silver supportive seats, with the addition of a sports inspired leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearshift lever both featuring silver stitching.

To ensure the Jazz Si has substance as well as style, revised suspension settings have been adopted. New dampers are combined with a larger front anti-roll bar to improve straight-line stability and body control. The electric power-steering system has also been modified for improved feel and response.

Standard Jazz Si equipment includes automatic climate control, cruise control, front fog lights, LED rear combination lamps, remote audio controls on the steering wheel, USB socket, trip computer, powered and retractable door mirrors, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and electric windows, with an auto-up function for the driver,– along with the unrivalled flexibility bestowed by the Jazz’ Magic Seats.

One of the key considerations for Honda’s designers and engineers during the development of the Jazz Si was to preserve the key strengths that owners of the existing Jazz enjoy about their car.

The Jazz Si is powered by Honda’s familiar 1.4-litre i-VTEC 100 PS (73kW) engine, acclaimed for its performance and high fuel economy. This four-cylinder unit develops its maximum power at 6,000rpm and has a peak torque output of 127Nm at 4,800rpm.

In five-speed manual form the Jazz Si has the acceleration as the traditional models and has a top speed of 113mph.

Along with greater dynamism, the Jazz Si retains the easy-to-drive character, smooth controls, comfortable ride and long-distance refinement of the standard Jazz. The Jazz Si therefore offers the best of all worlds – a small car that can effortlessly cover long distances and is also fun to drive.

The excellent safety of the Jazz remains a key component of the Jazz Si, too. It employs Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which compensates for collisions between vehicles of different sizes and deflects crash energy away from the passenger cabin.

ACE body structure is part of a comprehensive package that helped the Jazz achieve a maximum five-star safety rating in Euro-NCAP crash tests. Standard protection features include Honda’s VSA stability control system and anti-lock brakes to help the driver avoid an accident. Should a collision prove unavoidable, however, there are six airbags, three-point seatbelts all round, with reminders to warn the driver if someone has failed to put their seatbelt on, anti-whiplash head restraints and ISOFIX child-seat tethers and top anchors.

The Si variant of the Jazz was developed and engineered entirely in Europe and it will be in dealer showrooms at the end of August.

Honda Jazz SE with Idle Stop The Jazz SE with Idle Stop makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2012 and further demonstrates Honda’s commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions and improving fuel economy. The 1.2 litre Jazz with Idle Stop will be sold alongside the existing Jazz range and will not lose any of the practicality associated with the model. The Jazz SE with Idle Stop sits above the S A/C in the model line up and also benefits from the addition of Auto Climate Control and body coloured door handles and mirrors.

The Idle Stop system automatically switches off the engine when you come to a stop improving efficiency and delivering a combined fuel economy of 54.3mpg and CO₂ emissions of 120 g/km – representing an improvement of approximately 3 g/km in comparison to 1.2 litre Jazz. The system is also optional so that the driver can switch it off when it is not required.

Honda announces CO2 emissions of 95 g/km for new Civic with 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine

Honda Motor Europe’s President, Manabu Nishimae, today announced the 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine in the new Civic would deliver CO2 emissions of 95g/km*.

The new 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine is the first drive train from Honda’s new Earth Dreams Technology engine series to be introduced into Europe. It will be manufactured at Honda’s UK manufacturing facility in Swindon from the end of 2012.

The application of new high-strength material in the cylinder head has enabled Honda to deliver the world’s lightest aluminium open deck 1.6-litre diesel engine.

These lightweight characteristics, along with the compact high-efficiency turbocharger enhance responsiveness and ensure the car will offer a class-leading balance of fuel economy and performance.

The new 1.6 litre diesel will be the first engine from this series and it will be introduced to the new Civic in late 2012. Honda Hybrid Sales hit 800K

Honda has sold more than 800,000 hybrid vehicles since the first generation Honda Insight hit the road in November 1999. Honda was the first manufacturer in the world to launch a hybrid model and the Insight delivered 83 miles per gallon* giving it the highest fuel economy among all petrol powered vehicles at the time.

Honda now sells seven hybrid models in 50 countries and they all come equipped with Honda’s original lightweight and compact IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) hybrid system.

In the UK, Honda has sold more than 22,000 hybrids since the original Insight was launched in 2000 and the current hybrid line up now consists of the CR-Z, Jazz Hybrid and Insight.

Honda’s annual worldwide hybrid sales for 2011 was approximately 200,000 units (up 30 per cent compared to 2010), and Honda’s total hybrid sales during the last three years exceeded 500,000. In Japan, the ratio of hybrid vehicles exceeded 45 per cent of all new Honda vehicle registrations for the month of December 2011.

American Honda unveiled the new NSX Concept, highlighting the design and technology direction for the next-generation supercar.

Badged as an Acura in the US, the new NSX, which is expected to go on sale in the next three years, will be developed by Honda R&D Americas and manufactured in Ohio but is developed for true sports driving enthusiasts throughout the world.

The dynamically-styled NSX Concept gives an indication of the next great performance vehicle from Honda. Making use of lightweight materials and a mid-mounted V-6 engine, the NSX Concept employs several new technologies, including an innovative new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® (Super Handling All Wheel Drive™) hybrid system.

Speaking at the Detroit Motor Show, Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd, who led the development of Honda’s first NSX supercar, explained the values of the new NSX, “Like the first NSX, we will again express high performance through engineering efficiency. In this new era, even as we focus on the fun to drive spirit of the NSX, I think a supercar must respond positively to environmental responsibilities.”

While most supercars opt for brute force delivered from a large engine, the NSX Concept champions the true racing philosophy of an extremely favourable power-to-weight ratio.

Utilising a unique 2 Electric Motor Drive Unit with a bilateral torque adjustable control system, the new hybrid all-wheel-drive system can instantly generate negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering, which Honda anticipates will deliver handling performance unmatched by previous AWD systems. In addition to the handling benefits of the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® system, a powerful next-generation VTEC® V-6 engine with direct-injection, works in concert with a dual clutch transmission with built-in electric motor, to create supercar acceleration while offering outstanding efficiency.

This Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system will make the NSX the ultimate expression of, “the synergy between man and machine,” added Ito. “The NSX will make the driver one with the car to enhance dynamic driving abilities without getting in the way.”

In addition to the new NSX Concept, American Honda also unveiled the Accord Coupe Concept, providing the first glimpse of the styling direction of the ninth-generation US Accord, set to go on-sale in the US in autumn 2012. This model is designed uniquely for the US market and is not destined for Europe.

As the Acura brand enters its second 25 years as Honda’s premium luxury-performance automobile brand, a concept version of the Acura ILX luxury compact sedan and a prototype of the 2013 RDX crossover sports utility vehicle were also unveiled.

The Acura ILX Concept is the precursor to an all-new Acura luxury compact sedan scheduled for launch in spring 2012. To be positioned as the gateway to the Acura brand, the ILX will feature three different powertrains, including Acura’s first-ever petrol-electric hybrid.

PRODUCTION OF NEW CIVIC AND NEXT GENERATION CR-V TO BE BUILT AT HONDA'S UK PLANT

Honda has confirmed that both the new Civic hatchback for Europe and the next generation CR-V will be built at Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) in Swindon, UK.

In a further boost to HUM, weekly production will return to normal levels in early September after a period of parts supply interruption following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan earlier this year.

Associates proud to build new Civic

The new Civic – designed exclusively for Europe and tested extensively on the region’s roads – will be the ninth generation of the popular hatchback. Honda’s first ever Civic went on sale back in 1972.

Production of the small family car will start later in the year at HUM, ahead of the sales launch in early 2012.

The introduction of the new model into production remained on plan during the recent parts supply interruption and the 3,000 Honda Associates continue to prepare for the arrival of the new Civic, as well as conduct additional training to further their development during this time.

“Our Associates are all really excited to be producing the next generation of Civic here at Swindon,” says Mark Trowbridge, Director of Quality and New Model at HUM “The next six months will be busy, as we ramp up to full production following the training and trial builds of the new car.

“The fact that we will be the only Honda plant in the world producing this hatchback version of the new Civic, makes us extremely proud of the highly skilled and dedicated team we have working here in Swindon,” Mark continued.

The company’s decision to also produce the next generation CR-V at HUM is a further endorsement of the high quality produced by Honda’s UK based Associates. The new CR-V will go on sale in Europe from Autumn 2012.

Production to return to normal

Honda can also confirm that weekly production at HUM will return to normal levels from early September, following a period of parts supply interruption and reduced production levels following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Parts supply from Japan has continued to improve significantly and HUM is aiming to recover volume quickly in order to respond to customer requirements.

MUGEN DEVELOPS HONDA CR-Z MUGEN RR DESIGN CONCEPT

MUGEN of Japan has built a CR-Z MUGEN RR design concept to demonstrate MUGEN’s capabilities in terms of function, style, performance and agility. The CR-Z MUGEN RR was produced by M-TEC in Japan for show purposes only and there are currently no plans for further production.

The CR-Z MUGEN RR has been created with many bespoke prototype parts, several of which are created in carbon fibre, including the bonnet, passenger doors and rear tailgate. Other features unique to the car include a full length carbon-fibre underbody, a twin central-exit exhaust, vented front bumpers and race-developed suspension. Orange 4-piston monobloc brake calipers and forged 18-inch alloy wheels both complement the vibrant Valencia Orange Pearl exterior paint work.

Inside the car, the seats are clad in MUGEN-branded colour-coded leather/Alcantara. The addition of a race-developed information screen has the ability to record chassis and engine data as well as housing a Satellite navigation and audio system. This high tech kit will monitor the car over two laps to “learn” a circuit and then record lap data and vehicle tracking using GPS.

The design concept was unveiled for its world debut at the beginning of July in the Moving Motor Show area at Goodwood Festival of Speed and complements the high-performance CR-Z MUGEN, which was designed and built by MUGEN EURO based in the UK.

25,000 TAKE TO THE SKIES ON THE HONDA EYE AT GOODWOOD

More than 25,000 people soaked in the fantastic sights from the top of the Honda Eye, the 40-metre high, 24 pod ferris wheel, experiencing Goodwood as they've never seen it before.

Queues formed every day for the free-of-charge attraction before it officially opened at 9am and it continued to pull in crowds until it took its last flight on Sunday evening.

Boosting Honda’s interactive presence was the Racing Bug which gave would-be racing drivers, both young and old, the opportunity to get ‘behind the wheel’ of a 300mm long fully branded BTCC Civic replica on Honda’s mini race track. Located in the Moving Motor Show area, the Bug was another crowd pleaser with over 2,000 people having a go across the weekend.

Joining the Racing Bug in the Moving Motor Show was the head-turning CR-Z MUGEN RR design concept. The CR-Z MUGEN RR was produced by M-Tec in Japan with many prototype parts, several of which are created in carbon fibre for light weight and additional strength.

Elsewhere, Honda (UK) and MUGEN Euro’s own CR-Z MUGEN was a regular feature on the Hillclimb and took to the track twice a day. Other Honda activity on the Hillclimb included Honda Racing drivers Matt Neal and Gordon ‘Flash’ Shedden behind the wheel of the 2011 BTCC Civic and Honda TT Legends John McGuinness and Keith Amor riding the 2007 TT winning Replica Fireblade and 2011 TT Legends Fireblade.

Rounds 13-15, Croft, 18/19 June, 2011

Honda Racing Team ace Matt Neal heads the charge for the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship after two majestic wins at Croft in North Yorkshire.

It means the Civic driver is now nine points clear at the head of the drivers’ standings with the championship at its halfway point while the sister car of Flash Gordon Shedden is third in the standings only 20 points adrift. Honda also continues its leads of the manufacturer and team standings.

Neal conquered the tricky conditions in the opening race on Sunday to fend off a late charge from a rival and took the chequered flag just 0.055 seconds clear following a tense race. He was able to control the pace in the second race to add his fifth win of the campaign and was then seventh in the reversed grid race three. Three top six finishes for Scotsman Shedden have also helped him keep the pressure on in the fight for the prestigious crown.

“If you had have offered me two podium finishes coming in to this weekend, I would have taken them,” said Neal. “To get two wins and then more points in race three was better than we could have imagined. The Honda Racing Team car has been fantastic this weekend. We have worked hard on getting the most out of the handling of the Civic chassis which really is a benefit in the wet weather – the entire Honda Racing Team crew has been at the top of its game this weekend and that is what has helped us to get the results.”

Shedden said he was disappointed not to have scaled the podium but thinks that there are lessons that can be learned from a solid weekend at Croft.

“I was never really in the sweet spot with the handling of the car but we still walked away with three top six finishes,” said Flash. “I am frustrated that I couldn’t have been on the podium like Matt but I know the potential is there in the car and we just have to work on finding it.

“We have got a seven-week break in the championship now before the next rounds at Snetterton, so we have plenty of time to go back through the data that we get from this meeting to work out the areas that will push me even further forwards. This wasn’t a perfect weekend for me, but it wasn’t a disaster either. In this series, it is all about consistently scoring points.”

The next rounds of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship takes place at Snetterton in Norfolk on August 6/7.

Honda Racing Team drivers Matt Neal and Gordon ‘Flash’ Shedden are feeling positive ahead of this weekend’s rounds of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Croft in North Yorkshire.

Former double champion, Matt Neal heads to the fifth meeting of the season on top of the drivers’ standings and Honda also leads the manufacturers’ and teams’ points tables too. Neal and team-mate Gordon Shedden are both hopeful that the demanding 2.25-mile track will help to deliver more success for the Honda Racing team.

“It has been a great track for us in the past and I think that we will be strong there again,” said Neal. “It’s a track that really rewards a car that has a strong chassis and that is something we have got with the Civic. It’s very strong in the fast sweeping corners and it’s also a good car when you have to be aggressive across the kerbing. I am going there confident of a strong weekend.”

Despite Neal’s optimism, he says that there will be one factor which could knock the team’s preparations ahead of the three races on Sunday – the good old British weather. “We saw at the last round at Oulton Park that difficult conditions can change everything,” said Neal. “I have looked at the forecast for the weekend and it looks unpredictable. I just hope we can have three dry races to get the most out of the car.”

Neal’s team-mate Shedden is just two points behind in the race for the drivers’ title and he says that Croft could be one of the turning points of the season. “I agree that our car is going to be strong around Croft and I took two wins there last season,” said Flash. “Our rivals don’t stand still though so we will have to push hard to stay on top.

“For each weekend, I need to take away 30 points to remain in the title hunt – that is the target. That means three solid top three finishes and if you can get any more than that, then it is a bonus. I think we can perform strongly because it is such a technical track and it has two distinct characters.

“It has some really fast corners around the back of the circuit which mean you need a great handling car but it also has the slow and technical stuff at the end of the lap so we need to make sure that the set-up is perfect. Getting all of those elements right is what makes it such a buzz when you hook it all up.”

The fifth meeting of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship takes place on Saturday and Sunday and the entire race day is broadcast live on ITV4. HONDA RACING TEAM: BTCC RACE REPORT

Rounds 10-12, Oulton Park, 4/5 June, 2011

A win and a podium position in the fourth meeting of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park on Sunday has hauled Gordon Shedden on to the boot lid of his Honda Racing Team Civic team-mate Matt Neal at the top of the chase for this season’s drivers’ title.

Shedden stormed to victory in the opening race of the weekend in Cheshire after an inspired tyre choice in tricky conditions. His blend of slick rubber and treaded racing Dunlops was the key to his win.

In race two, Shedden was fighting for another win when he and Neal collided at the last corner after what Neal described as a “horrible mistake” which ran them both off the road. In the final encounter they both bounced back with Shedden taking second place and Matt in fourth to consolidate the teams’ grip on the drivers’ standings, the team points and the manufacturers’ chase.

Looking back on the weekend, Shedden said that the pace the Civic had shown in the tricky conditions meant it was uncatchable for rivals. “It was raining on and off, and in those conditions you need a great chassis,” explains the Scot. “The fact we were able to run at the front in both races proves that we have been working on all the right areas when it comes to traction and grip.”

Former champion Neal apologised to Shedden after their race two contact and ‘Flash’ Gordon said the incident proved how hard the two drivers were pushing. “After winning race one we were determined to get the most out of race two that we could. It was unfortunate that we made contact but these things happen in racing,” said the Fife Flier. “The best way to respond was to get back on to the podium in the third race and that was what we did.”

The treacherous conditions prompted a difficult tyre choice for the entire field at the start of the opening race and Neal opted for wet weather tyres all round. However, as the track dried up he found that the grip went away in his treaded rubber and he could only manage eighth position. Then came the race two incident with Flash.

“I am annoyed with myself for letting it happen,” he said. “I am sorry for Flash that I crashed into him. I was looking down the inside and it was wetter on the track than I thought. I locked up the brakes and went into him. I am sorry for him and for the team because we would have had a one-two finish.”

Despite that hiccup, Neal charged from 19th on the grid to fourth in the final dry race of the day and that was enough to ensure he left Oulton Park still in the lead of the points standings. He is two points in front of Shedden.

“Every cloud has a silver lining,” says Neal. “It was hard to find a positive after race two but when the car was free of success ballast it was really hooked up in race three. We have been working so hard on the chassis and the engine and everything trying to make it faster and it showed it’s been worth it today. I hold my hands up and even though I did my best to drop the ball in race two we are still in the in the fight, which is great as we are getting to the halfway stage of the season.”

The next rounds of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship take place at Croft in North Yorkshire on June 18/19.

WOOL AND THE GANG - Meet Clarissa the alpaca in Honda's new Channel 4 campaign

An alpaca breeder from Oxfordshire and her herd of 100 friendly alpacas are the stars of a series of short films to be broadcast as part of Honda's sponsorship of Channel 4 documentaries.

Honda has created this series of films to explore and celebrate real-life people who use their Honda cars, ATVs, lawn mowers, generators, marine engines and motorbikes in unusual and extraordinary ways. The first Honda film, starring farmer Philippa Wills and her alpacas, premieres tonight, supporting a Cutting Edge documentary on plastic surgery on Channel 4 at 10pm.

Philippa relies on her Honda ATV to zip around her 36 acres of land to tend to her alpacas, feeding, herding them together and clipping their toe nails. Viewers will be introduced to Philippa and her lovable woolly animals in the bumpers which will sit between the documentary and the advert breaks, while a full 90 second version of the film will be available to view on a new website : http://www.honda.co.uk/stories

In addition to the full length film, visitors to the website will be able to find out more about the stars, including Clarissa (who was born in a thunderstorm and is ‘crazy about chopped carrots’) and Kendall, who is (‘mad about the girls and thinks he’s the big boss’). There will also be the opportunity to ask Philippa questions about her herd, plus the chance to name the next baby alpaca.

"I decided to take part in the Honda documentary because it sounded like fun,” commented Philippa Wills. “I use my Honda ATV every single day – it's a true workhorse and an essential part of my business. Above all, it's utterly reliable – which is crucial when you've got 100 hungry alpacas demanding food. It's extremely agile which is especially handy when you're trying to herd them all together. Viewers who keep their eyes peeled throughout the year will meet more Honda customers telling their own extraordinary stories through more Honda films.

This new campaign continues Honda’s successful sponsorship of Channel 4 documentaries which started in February 2010 celebrating the company’s UK manufacturing site in Swindon, Wiltshire.
